Sterling Canyon reports on a jewelry auction over the weekend that supported the Saby Charity Foundation, based in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Christie’s Auction House and Avakian joined forces to auction off several pieces of jewelry, the highlight being this necklace or amulet that Avakian created and donated, inspired by old Kazakhstani jewelry, set with Sapphires, Diamonds and Blue Topaz. Certainly not a Tiffany, the ancient design is pretty just the same.
This piece sold for $250,000, the highest bid within a lot of five. The money went to Saby, which assists orphans, children with serious health concerns, the disabled and artistically talented youth with socially vulnerable families in Kazakhstan.
Actress Sigourney Weaver hosted the event, and singer Robin Thicke performed. Caroline Kennedy was also in attendance.
