Sterling Canyon wants to sell you an Emerald. But this is no ordinary Emerald. This Emerald is too large to fit in your pocket and even too large for Elizabeth Taylor.
This Emerald was sold by a dealer in India to someone in Canada on-line for $1.15 million after being inspected by several of his agents. It weights 57,500 carats and is the largest finished cut Emerald ever. Now there are questions whether this is really an Emerald and the collector got sucker punched. The collector (not Macy’s) swears it is real. However several inspecters believe it is simply dyed white Beryl. Someone who inspected it up close in Canada said it was dyed green and treated with filler to hide the cracks and inclusions. In the picture, one can see the variations in green color which is a clue that it was dyed. Perhaps its an Emerald with a light green complexion. Perhaps the Indians simply enhanced the true beauty of the stone. Looks like its just a millionaire who has lost a $1.15 million bet. It would look good in the rock garden.
