Bad Emeralds Means Bah Humbug

Sterling Canyon wants to know whether you are getting tired of hearing about fake and enhanced precious gemstones.  We certainly are and yet here is another report stating that Colombia, the cocaine mecca of the world is now exporting irradiated Emeralds to the United States.

It seems that the beautiful Emerald necklace you bought your wife for Christmas may have been irradiated or filled with epoxy.  The American Gemological Society (AGS) is just now getting wind of this and are warning consumers and jewelers about the invasion.  Irradiation enhances the natural color of the stone.  Filling the fissures of imperfect stones with epoxy brings out the clarity and makes them shinier.  Do you care?  Hey, your wife has a beautiful looking necklace and should last five or ten years before the Emerald breaks apart.  In todays buy and throw away society, just buy another one.  Macy’s or Walmart will be happy to sell you a stunning new Emerald necklace.
