Bad Jewelry Cleaning Advice

Sterling Canyon just read from a supposedly reputable jewelry writer that I’m sure many people trust.  The advice had to do with the art of cleaning your jewelry.  Techniques she recommended include using toothpaste and scrubbing with a brush.  Agh!  Folks, I have written several times about the fine art of cleaning your precious and expensive jewelry.  The metals used in jewelry, mainly Gold and Sterling Silver are fairly soft and susceptable to scratching.  Sterling Silver also has a common protective coating that prevents tarnishing.  Scrub it with a brush and you’ll remove the coating.  Never use a brush, Windex, cleaning fluid and other solutions meant for something else.

Each time you wear a piece of jewelry, oils from your skin as well as dirt particles in the air accumulate on the piece.  Simply wipe the oils and dirt off with a clean cloth.  Sterling Canyon provides a cleaning cloth free with every purchase.  A simple solution for a simple problem.  Don’t go overboard.
